Mytchett Community Association:
The Mytchett Community Association was formed in 1976 to raise funds to assist the Borough and County Councils build a Community Centre in the village of Mytchett. It is a registered charity (Charity No: 288035).
Between 1979 and erection of the Community Centre in 1987, the Association was required to raise £20,000 before the Borough and County Councils would fund the erection of the building. The requirement was achieved despite the lack of a building from which to operate and generate income before 1987.
Between 1987 and today, the Association has ensured the Centre is self supporting, it receives a rent reduction from Surrey Heath Borough Council, but the rest of the running costs have to be earned. This is done by hiring out rooms and playing fields and from the fund raising events organised by the Association. These include the annual fireworks display, family fun day and regular quiz nights.
The extensive grounds include two football pitches in addition to hosting weekly car boot sales. The large car parks ensure that local residents are not disturbed by the numerous visitors, and can accommodate up to 185 cars.
The Centre hosts numerous clubs and societies with activities for all ages. These include sports, dance, health and wellness, drama and craft groups.
The Social Club:
The Social Club occupies the bar area in the Centre, but has access to additional rooms as required. Membership is available to individuals, couples and families, with discounts for senior citizens.
The Bar provides a selection of beers including real ale, wines and spirits at competitive prices for members.
The profits of the social club are used in maintaining and supporting the Mytchett Community Association.
A committee is elected yearly to run the social club for the benefit of the members, it meets every month on the second Monday with elections taking place each year at the AGM.
