2026 October Newsletter featuring autumn events and dog walking

Mytchett Centre Logo

Welcome to the Mytchett Center Newsletter - October 2026

With Halloween festivities, Firework Night, a Firewalk and a busy schedule ahead, the Mytchett Centre is buzzing with activity. Alongside the celebrations, we’re calling on all dog owners to dispose of waste responsibly to ensure our grounds remain pleasant for all visitors.

Each month, we’ll bring you stories, dates for your diary and ways to enjoy and support your centre. Follow us on Facebook for the latest news.

Make it a Mytchett Centre fireworks night

Light Up the Sky · Sunday 1 November

Gates open 4.30pm · Display starts 6.30pm

Fireworks, colourful lasers, pyrotechnics and our ever‑popular fairground promise a full evening of entertainment at The Mytchett Centre, with our much‑loved display bringing something special to a community tradition we’ve proudly hosted for many years. Join us with family or friends to enjoy the fairground, food, and refreshments before the display—and if you’ve never been before, make this the year you experience it.

It’s also our biggest fundraising event of the year, and choosing your local Centre for a night out directly supports the place where so many of our community activities take place. We would welcome a few additional volunteers to help us on the night, and please note that the bar’s lunchtime session will close at 2pm before reopening at 4:30pm for the firework event. Please walk to the display rather than driving if you can.

Put Sunday 1 November in your diary. Tickets are available now.

Could you join our Firewalk team?

Friday 20 November · Sign up now to start gathering sponsors

Would you walk barefoot across hot embers for a good cause? We’re looking for more people to take part in our sponsored Firewalk, an event we’re sharing with Parity for Disability.

It's not long now but there is still time to join and ask friends, family and colleagues for sponsorship. You could take part with a friend or encourage a team from work to join you.

The joining fee is £15, with a commitment to raise at least £100 in sponsorship. Walk with the MCA team and your sponsorship will support our important winter heating fundraiser. Participants must attend the training provided before the walk. The minimum age is 14 (parental consent required for ages 14–15) Please read the full participation details before registering.

Urgent Message to Dog Owners:

Please Clean Up After Your Pets

The centre’s grounds remain an important part of our outdoor space and are generally used respectfully. With local league football teams now training and playing on the fully marked pitches, it is essential that the area remains clean, safe, and suitable for all who use it.

To protect the pitches and maintain a sustainable shared space, we ask dog walkers to avoid the marked areas, keep dogs on leads, and ensure all waste is picked up and disposed of properly. A recent post on Facebook prompted lively discussion, but the situation on the ground has become increasingly concerning.

If you bring your dog onto the grounds, you are fully responsible for cleaning up after them—no exceptions.

Please bag waste, place it in the bins provided, or take it home if bins are full. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times and are not permitted on the football pitch. Additional signage is being installed to reinforce this.

A dedicated dog waste bin is available at the Coleford Bridge Road entrance.

A warm Centre for the months ahead

Our heating appeal now stands at around £3,500 towards the £20,000 needed to keep the Centre warm this winter. Thank you to everyone helping us protect a warm, welcoming space for local activities.

If you’d like to give directly, use the Donate button (uses the commission free Wonderful.com service) on our website. Every contribution is appreciated.

Support worth celebrating

A big thank-you to the Mytchett Baptist Church, Origen Financial Services (https://origenfs.co.uk/), Pine Ridge Ladies Golf Team and the local Cricket League for supporting the Food Bank with donations in September.

Thank you to the Kier Construction volunteers helping at the Food Bank this month.

Our application to Surrey Heath Borough Council for a CIL grant for new heating was rejected but is being reviewed again in November. We’ll keep you informed.

Contributions of time, skills and funding all help care for the Centre we share.
