A thousand visitors, a lively dog show and some determined tug-of-war teams: our Summer Fun Day gave us plenty to smile about. Thank you for being part of it. Read the full story below.

This autumn, two big events need a place in your plans: our fireworks & laser evening, and a sponsored firewalk for those ready for a challenge.

Could you join our Firewalk team?

Would you walk barefoot across hot embers for a good cause? We’re looking for more people to take part in our sponsored Firewalk, an event we’re sharing with Parity for Disability.

November may feel a little way off, but now is the time to join: signing up early gives you more time to ask friends, family and colleagues for sponsorship. You could take part with a friend or encourage a team from work to join you.

The joining fee is £15, with a commitment to raise at least £100 in sponsorship. Walk with the MCA team and your sponsorship will support our important winter heating fundraiser. Participants must attend the training provided before the walk. The minimum age is 14, with parental consent required for ages 14–15. Please read the full participation details before registering.

Make it a Mytchett Centre fireworks night

Light Up the Sky · Sunday 1 November

Gates open 4.30pm · Display starts 6.30pm

Fireworks, colourful lasers and our big, popular fairground: there’s a whole evening to look forward to at the Centre. Our much-loved laser display adds something special to a community tradition we’ve enjoyed hosting for many years.

Come with family or friends, enjoy the fairground, and find something to eat or drink before the display. If you haven’t joined us before, make this the year you discover it.

It’s also our biggest fundraising event of the year. Choosing your local Centre for a night out helps support the place where so many of our community activities happen.

Put Sunday 1 November in your diary. Tickets will be available through Eventbrite; the booking link will be shared on our website when sales open.

Summer Fun Day: familiar faces, new friends and a few Imperial visitors

More than 1,000 people joined us on Bank Holiday Monday for a day of games, music, browsing and catching up. It was lovely to welcome familiar faces alongside people discovering the Centre for the first time—and, of course, plenty of four-legged visitors.

The inflatables were a favourite, while hoopla, cornhole and the tombola kept people busy around the stalls. Pro Dogs Direct put our canine guests in the spotlight with an afternoon of dog-show challenges. 

Elsewhere, four mixed teams and two women’s teams took on the tug of war challenge, overseen by Dr Rob Scott, our Tug Of War expert.

Sneakin’ Suspicion brought live music and got people dancing, while Terry and the Frimley Park Hospital Radio team kept the afternoon moving with interviews and commentary. Even the Star Wars villains found time to patrol the crowd and inspect the stalls.

There was plenty to browse, from handmade crafts and local produce to community groups, charities and children’s clubs. Our stallholders and caterers helped make it a day to linger, with refreshments from the bar and drinks stall alongside ice creams, burgers and slushies.

Together, the day raised over £1,000 towards keeping the Centre warm this winter. Thank you to the local partners and residents who donated raffle prizes, and to everyone who bought a ticket, visited a stall or supported the fundraising.

Behind it all were our volunteers, staff and committee: planning, setting up, running stalls, stewarding the car park and clearing away afterwards. Thank you for the work that made everyone else’s day possible.  With special thanks to Sneakin' Suspicion, Dr Rob Scott and Property Bee for donating their time and resources for this event.

If you came, we hope these memories bring a smile. If you missed it, we’d love to welcome you next year—and there’s plenty happening before then.

A warm Centre for the months ahead

Our heating appeal now stands at around £3,000 towards the £20,000 needed to keep the Centre warm this winter. Thank you to everyone helping us protect a warm, welcoming space for local activities.

Support worth celebrating

A big thank-you to the Asda Foundation for a £500 grant to support the Centre. We’re grateful for this contribution and for the generosity of everyone who has donated, given a raffle prize or helped with our fundraising.

We’ve also applied to Surrey Heath Borough Council for a grant, and our application is being reviewed. We’ll keep you informed as it progresses.

There’s a fresh look in the Small Hall, too. Thank you to Ricks Decorating Services for refreshing the paintwork, and to Emma’s Kiddicare (preschool for 2-4yrs) for donating this improvement.

Contributions of time, skills and funding all help care for the Centre we share.

Adults-only bingo, extra games and a raffle. Booking information is on our What’s On page.

- Karaoke Night — Friday 2 October, 7pm.   

Bring your favourite song—or enjoy listening.

- Jumble Sale — Sunday 4 October, 9am–12.30pm.   

Fill a bag for £5; bags provided. Clothes, games and household items. Pay on the door.

- Paul Sykes Big Band — Sunday 4 October, 7.30pm.   

An evening of live big band music at the Centre.

- Race Night  — Saturday 17 October, 7.30pm.

- Halloween Disco — Friday 30 October.
