Tug Of War 2026

Welcome to the registration and info page for the 2026 Tug of War Tournament at the Mytchett Family Fun Day.

Register your team or as a Puller here

Puller Donations

We are raising money for the new heating system that the Mytchett Centre urgently requires to operate throughout the winter.

To help the fundraising Pullers can make a personal donation. We suggest £10 or £5 each when you register or when you attend the tournament.

If you have a team we suggest you aim to raise at least £100 in sponsorship.

Fundraiser Pages

We have our own Charity account at Wonderful.Org and you can setup your own fundraising page linked to our account to collect donations and track your progress.

Your sponsors and donors can make bank payments without any bank fees with 100% of the payment going to the charity fund.

Payments can also be made with Gift Aid if the donor qualifies as a UK tax payer which means the charity gets the tax back from the government too (an extra 20%)

If you collect cash donations or sponsorship please bring it to the Mytchett Centre (01252 373073) or pay it into the Wonderful.org account.

Business Sponsors Wanted

Businesses can support the event through:
•    event sponsorship
•    team sponsorship
•    raffle prizes
•    team prizes
•    matched employee fundraising
•    direct donations

Supporting the appeal demonstrates a commitment to the local community and helps preserve an important local facility used by hundreds of residents every week.

Sponsorship Form

You can use this template Sponsorship form.

It helps you record your donations and makes it easy to apply Gift Aid for an extra 20% and it will help with corporate matching and corporate donations too.

Who can Enter?

Total Format Flexibility:
Got a massive crew? Awesome.

Only got 5 or 6 people? No worries!

We are running flexible 6-aside and 8-aside matches depending on who enters.

Ultimate Fairness:
No rigid categories here. Teams can be a mix of either sex and age (13+).

To keep the playing field totally level, we are grouping and matching teams entirely by Total Combined Team Weight on the day.

Big squads, mixed squads, small squads—everyone gets a fair, hard-fought pull!

Solo & Small Crews Welcome:

Don't have a full team? Sign up anyway!

We will play matchmaker and pair you up with other local legends to form an elite powerhouse team.

Rules of The Game

Teams: Equal number of pullers per side. Only registered participants who have signed this sheet may pull.

The Grip: Pullers must use bare hands. The rope must pass down the outside of the body, between the body and the upper arm.

No Wrapping or Locking: No participant is permitted to wrap the rope around their hands, wrists, arms, or torso. No knots are allowed in the rope.
Footwear & Positioning: Standard flat footwear or trainers only. Football boots, spikes, cleats, or heels are strictly prohibited to prevent injuries and maintain fair play. Sitting on the ground or anchoring feet into pre-dug holes is not permitted.

The Signal: Pulling begins strictly on the referee's whistle and stops immediately when the whistle is blown to signal a win or a foul.

The Judge:  The instructions of the Judge must be followed by all participants and the decisions of the Judge are final.

Health, Safety & Injury Prevention

Tug of War is a highly strenuous physical activity. To reduce the risk of injury, please follow this guidance:

Warm Up: Spend a few minutes warming up and stretching your muscles (especially your legs, back, and arms) prior to your first match.

Maintain Stable Footing: Keep your feet roughly shoulder-width apart and keep a slight bend in your knees. Do not lock your knees out straight.

Avoid Sudden Releases: Do not intentionally let go of the rope suddenly, as this can cause a dangerous loss of tension, leading to sudden falls or jerks for your teammates or opponents.

Listen to Your Body: If you experience severe strain, dizziness, or sudden pain, safely ease off your pull and signal to a substitute or the match official immediately.

Informed Consent & Liability Waiver

On the day participants will need to sign a consent and waiver form.

Adult Participants (18+): By signing, I acknowledge that participating involves inherent physical risks (including strains, sprains, rope burns, and falls). I declare that I am physically fit and participate entirely at my own risk, releasing the event organisers, charity trustees, volunteers, and venue from liability for personal injury or property damage, except where liability cannot be excluded by law.

Parents / Legal Guardians (for Minors under 18): By signing as a parent/guardian, I certify that I am the legal custodian of the minor named. I give full permission for them to participate under the safety rules outlined above. I confirm the minor is physically fit with no underlying conditions making participation unsafe, and I accept that primary supervision of the minor remains my responsibility during the event.

Media Consent (Optional): By signing, you also grant permission for the charity to use photographs or video footage taken during the event for promotional and marketing materials, unless you explicitly cross out this clause on the day.

Have Fun!
